@eemge I prefer a phone call these days. I've come full circle it seems because I used to hate the phone. But now, I hate email more. IM and text are fine because they don't require too much typing. But Twitter and Facebook are the most effective for the "how you been?" questions.

eemge - agreed about the IM and text messaging. Certainly not wanting more phone calls than I need it was just an immediate example of other alternatives to email. Sometimes people get so locked into email they expect response in almost real time. Text and IM are great alternatives that are certainly more real time than email.

Hate to disagree with Popo. I'm a phone guy but hate the phone. I think it is now a rude interruption and should be for critical/emergency use only. If someone has a question for me or needs to tell me something I would much rather have an IM or text msg. Then I have control of the communication. I rarely answer voice calls for that reason. Let it go to VM and then I again have some control. Besides, a guy like me with ADD has no time for the pleasantries involved with a phone "This is Erwin, Hi Mike, pause... Ya I'm doing good, how you been? pause..." So 15 seconds of my life GONE! If it is going to take a while to explain and doesn't need immediate reply, send an email. But then email just irritates me. Have yet to find the perfect mashup of tools.

Thanks for the comment, Dale. We need to write a Twitter filter for email that summarizes all of those long emails into 140 characters! BTW, one of your Mercy colleagues is on the show this week. I'm hoping to post the new show today.

Glad you like the show, Scott! I have a new episode edited and ready for upload today. I've been using Windows XP and Windows 7 for some studio experimentation lately and I have to say that Windows is architecturally inferior to the Mac with multimedia. I thought Windows 7 might fix some of those issues, but it does not. Core Audio on the Mac is an amazing feature that we don't talk about enough.

Love the show. I'm using a Macbook Pro, travelling 46+ wks/year. Good road warrior notebook. By the way, I don't care whether it has a pretty interface or not -- I use a web browser and Unix dev for almost all of my work, and my Mac lets me live very close to the technology stack that I care about. I use my VMWare Fusion instance less and less...

If Mac's had decent games, I might dip my toe in. The real problem is enterprise. The market is pretty much lost. As an example look at most enterprises, they are not early adopters (in most cases). Look at Vista as an example, most enterprises still use XP which is younger than most of Jasons underware, yes, but still old. Companies will not move to Apple in significant form. Risk the the name of the game (and control). Also most financial systems (Peoplesoft, JDE, etc) are in the domain of the Windows world.... Anyway, good show guys.

Good point, Erwin. Corey said the same thing about his XP laptop in Episode 1. I guess you have to be a Windows expert to enjoy your experience on a PC!

I find it interesting that Sal said the MAC guys have to do a lot of "tweaking" then went on to tell us how he had to "tweak" his PC to make it stable.

Hey guys... not sure about the "Laser focus", but it was a great show. I gotta agree with several things, the one I want to point out though is Mike's e-mail rant. When I get a huge e-mail 99% of the time I don't make it past the first sentence and that is usually only if it comes from my boss :) and then I don't read it I call him and ask him what he wants.
I think a ton of the e-mail traffic I get is stems from the corporate CYA culture. People love to say "well I sent that to you in e-mail last week." Well you know what I didn't read it!
